Raise funds to support the mission of the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee’s and its new nonprofit instrumentality (Crucible, Inc.) to foster strong, resilient and inclusive communities by providing a continuum of high-quality housing options that support self-sufficiency, good quality of life, and the opportunity to thrive.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
1.Work with the Secretary-Executive Directorof the Housing Authority and the President and CEO of Crucible, Inc. to set annual fundraising goals and develop a budget to support fundraising activities
2.Develop and implement strategies for securing gifts, business sponsorships, and grants to fulfill fundraising goals
3.Research funding opportunities from governmental organizations, foundations, and corporations, and prepare grant applications/proposals for funding
4.Assume a proactive leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals and local business sponsorships
5.Cultivate and directly solicit individual donors, working with the Secretary-Executive Director and other key staff as appropriate
6.Maintain a list of potential donors with appropriate contact information, date and type of solicitation, and date and amount of actual contributions received
7.Maintain a list of grant applications that includes the organization, due date, amount of grant, purpose of grant, date grant application submitted, and status of application
8.Work with the Housing Authority’s Communications Coordinator to plan and coordinate events, mailings and social media activities to achieve fundraising goals
9.Work with the Housing Authority’s Communications Coordinator to develop brochures and sponsorship proposals required to support development efforts
10.Ensure that all donors are immediately and appropriately thanked and receive regular reports and communications from the Housing Authority
11.Provide quarterly reports on fundraising progress
12.Performs other duties as assigned
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or in a related field or the equivalent in work experience.
At least 3-5 years of documented success in obtaining government grants, and major gifts, grants, and contributions from philanthropic foundations, businesses and individual donors
- Experience in organizing and implementing the following activities: grant applications, major and business sponsorships, and direct mail and special events
- Computer literacy and a knowledge of donor database systems.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
Computers literacy and a knowledge of donor database systems
SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
- Ability to use social media and the website for fundraising and donor cultivation
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, writing and public speaking skills
- An entrepreneurial, flexible and resourceful spirit
- A sense of humor
- Must be willing and able to work some weekends, evenings and early mornings
Job typically requires: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
