San Diego Housing Commission’s Homelessness Action Plan Shows Results as SDHC Marks Its 40th Anniversary

In its 40th year of creating housing opportunities for low-income San Diegans, the San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) is making significant strides in housing individuals experiencing homelessness through its HOUSING FIRST – SAN DIEGO homelessness action plan. Established in 2014, HOUSING FIRST – SAN DIEGO directs SDHC, federal, and City of San Diego funds towards providing housing and links to supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness as quickly as possible, following the national “Housing First” model of addressing homelessness.

In April, SDHC and partners broke ground on The Link, an affordable 86-unit development in downtown San Diego that will include 72 units of permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. In May, SDHC celebrated the grand openings of two communities built to house homeless veterans: Alpha Lofts, which will offers 52 units in San Diego’s Normal Heights neighborhood, and Zephyr, an 84-unit community in the Grantville area. Through these three properties, SDHC will provide 208 new homes for San Diegans experiencing homelessness.

These new developments focused on providing housing and supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness coincide with SDHC’s 40th anniversary as a housing authority – 40 years of creating opportunities for low-income San Diegans through stable housing, innovative programs, and vibrant communities.
