The House Financial Services Committee voted unanimously on July 16 to approve H.R. 3702, the “Reforming Disaster Recovery Act of 2019,” bipartisan legislation from Reps. Al Green (D-TX) and Ann Wagner (R-MO) that would formally authorize HUD’s Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program.

As part of a Congressional request to review the federal government’s response to the 2017 hurricanes, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released a performance audit report on Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds that were awarded to Texas, Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

As we follow the news of Hurricane Michael, our thoughts are with those in the storm’s path. CLPHA stands ready to work in support of low-income Americans impacted by the disaster and, as we have in the past, will advocate for HUD and FEMA programs such as DHAP and CDBG-DR that provide funds to assist recovery efforts.
